Update: Kawaihae Road reopens following propane leak in the area

Updated at 3:22 p.m. on April 21: Kawaihae Road is now open.

The Hawai’i Police Department advises that Kawaihae Road from Spencer Beach Park entrance to the Akoni Pule Highway intersection is closed due to a leaking propane tank.
All travel between North and South Kohala must use the Kohala Mountain Road, Highway 250.

Hawai‘i Fire Department has responded to the scene. The road is expected to be closed for at least two hours.
