Scheduled road closures for Merrie Monarch festivities

The public is advised of road closures as of Wednesday due to the 60th Annual Merrie Monarch festivities throughout Hilo.

As of noon Wednesday till Saturday, Kalanikoa Street between Piʻilani and Kuawa Streets are converted to a one-way traffic pattern (Northerly-Hilo bound). The typical traffic pattern will resume on Kalanikoa Street on Sunday at 8 a.m.

On Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Kamehameha Avenue between Pauahi Street and Suisan Bridge in both directions will be closed for the Merrie Monarch Festival Royal Parade and staging area. The parade route closes to traffic at 10 a.m. with the parade starting at 10:30 a.m.

In preparation for the parade, parking space closures will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both sides of Kīlauea Avenue and Keawe Street between Ponahawai Street and Waianuenue Avenue. All marked parking spaces on both sides of Waianuenue Avenue between Keawe Street and Kamehameha Avenue will also be closed.

All marked parking spaces reserved for persons with disabilities will remain accessible. The stalls are being closed to ensure the safety of parade spectators and participants.
