Mountain View man charged with firearms, drug offenses in Aloha Estates

Kamon Stephens

Kamon Stephens, 43, of Mountain View, was arrested and charged with a litany of offenses following the execution of a narcotics search warrant at a residence in  Aloha Estates on March 29, according to the Hawaiʻi County Prosecuting Attorney’s office.

Stephens, who also was arrested for an unrelated outstanding warrant, made his initial appearance in Hilo District Court on Monday afternoon.

Stephens’ bail  was maintained at $133,000 and he was ordered to appear for a preliminary hearing on April 5, 2023.

Stephens was charged with:

  • two counts of an illegal gun (a Glock .40 caliber pistol and a Charter Arms .22 caliber rifle)
  • three counts  of illegal ammunition
  • two counts of second degree commercial promotion of marijuana (knowingly possessing marijuana with a combined weight of two pounds or more)
  • third degree promoting a dangerous drug (possessing any amount of methamphetamine)
  • third degree promoting a dangerous drug (possessing any amount of hydrocodone)
  • third degree promoting a harmful drug
  • third degree promoting a detrimental drug
  • prohibited acts related to drug paraphernalia
  • possessing prohibited Butterfly Knives

The most serious offenses are punishable by either a 10-year prison term or four years probation and up to 18 months in jail.  

The investigation was a collaboration between members of Hawai‘i Police Department’s Area I  Vice and Criminal Investigation Sections, Community Policing Section, and Puna Patrol, and law enforcement officers with the Sheriff’s Department and Division of Conservation and Resources  Enforcement. The investigation was led by Det. Kimo Keli‘ipa‘akaua, Area I Criminal Investigation  Section, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney  Nathan Wersal.
