Public hearing for proposed changes to Hele-On Shared-Ride Taxi Program in Hilo
The Hawaiʻi County Mass Transit Agency is holding a public hearing regarding proposed changes to its Shared-Ride Taxi Program in the Hilo urbanized area.
The meeting will be at the Aupuni Center Conference Room on March 24 at 1:30 p.m.
The draft revisions would allow the County of Hawai‘i to subsidize up to $15.40 per trip for people taking a taxi who sign up for the program and travel within a 9-mile radius from their point of origin in Hilo. This would result in the elimination of taxi coupons.
The County of Hawai‘i will subsidize fares for services rendered on participating taxicabs and Transportation Network Companies. Any remaining balance will be the responsibility of the rider using the program. Trips completed outside of the service days and/or hours will not be subsidized and tips will not be subsidized by the County of Hawai‘i. Tips shall be at the rider’s expense and are not required.
