On Wednesday afternoon, a semi-truck and trailer overturned across both lanes of Queen Kaʻahumanu Highway between Kawaihae Road the Mauna Kea Beach Resort.

Hawaiʻi Island police originally thought it would take more than three hours to reopen the road. But the truck and trailer was removed from the highway in far less time.

Cookie Akau Gaspar posted in Big Island Popo Alert on Facebook: “Drive safe everyone. Our son had to turn around & go the long way to Hapuna. A 40 ft container flip over on its side near the telephone exchange because of the strong winds on Queen Ka‘ahumanu & Kawaihae area.”
