Gov. Green orders flags at half-staff for funeral services of Princess Kawānanakoa

Hawaiʻi Gov. Josh Green has ordered that United States and Hawaiʻi state flags be flown at half-staff at the Hawaiʻi State Capitol, all state offices and agencies, and the Hawaiʻi National Guard from sundown on Jan. 21 through sundown on Jan. 23 in observance of the two days of funeral services for Princess Abigail Kinoiki Kekaulike Kawānanakoa.

The princess died on Dec. 11, 2022 at age 96. Her body will be lying in state at ‘Iolani Palace on Sunday for the public memorial and on Monday there will be her private funeral at Mauna ‘Ala.

She is the first member of a Native Hawaiian royal family to be so solemnly hosted by the Palace in more than a century.

The Native Hawaiian royal descendant was known by many as the last Hawaiian princess.

“Jaime and I join untold numbers of people who are mourning the loss of the Princess,” Gov. Green said. “She will be warmly remembered for her generosity to the Native Hawaiian people, as well as the legacy of giving and advocacy that she left for all of Hawaiʻi’s people.”
