Update: High surf advisory cancelled for Big Island
Updated at 3:50 p.m. Jan. 15: The National Weather Service has canceled the high surf advisory for the Big Island.
Original post: The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for west-facing shores of the Big Island.
Surf is forecast to be 5 to 8 feet through 6 p.m. Sunday.
A large, long-period northwest swell (310 degrees) will continue to produce elevated surf along most north- and west-facing shores of the smaller islands.
Strong breaking waves and strong currents will make swimming dangerous in these high swell areas.
