Big Island weekly lane closures: Dec. 17-23

The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation announces weekly lane closures for Dec. 3-9. Lane closure schedules can change at any time without further notice. All projects are weather permitting.

Note: The holiday lane closure restriction runs from Monday, Dec. 19, through Monday, Jan. 2, 2023. Only closures with demonstrated need (e.g., necessary for safety or to avoid lengthy construction delays) have been approved and are on this list.

— MĀMALAHOA HIGHWAY (HIGHWAY 11) —

1) KEAʻAU (WEEKEND WORK)

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway (Highway 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 6 and 9, between Liʻiliʻi Street and Williams Street on Saturday Dec. 17, and Sunday Dec. 18, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for grass cutting.

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway (Highway 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 30 and 51.3, vicinity of Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park and Kamani Street, on Monday, Dec. 19, through Friday, Dec. 23, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for installation of cables on existing utility poles.

— QUEEN KAʻAHUMANU HIGHWAY (HIGHWAY 19) —

1) HONOKŌHAU

Single lane closure on Queen Kaʻahumanu Highway (Highway 19) possible in either direction between mile markers 96 and 97.5, Kealakehe Parkway to Hina Lani Street, on Saturday Dec. 17, and Sunday Dec. 18, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for landscape maintenance and shoulder work.

2) KAILUA-KONA

Single lane closure on Queen Kaʻahumanu Highway (Highway 19) possible in either direction between mile markers 67 and 75, Waikoloa Road to Kawaihae Road, on Saturday Dec. 17, and Sunday Dec. 18, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for culvert cleaning.

— HAWAI‘I BELT ROAD (HIGHWAY 19) —

1) HAKALAU

Single lane closure on Hawaiʻi Belt Road (Highway 19) possible in either direction between mile markers 12 and 14, vicinity of Pepeʻekeo Mill and Kolekole Beach Park, on Saturday, Dec. 17, and Sunday, Dec. 18, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for tree trimming.

2) PĀPAʻALOA (WEEKEND WORK)

Single lane closure on Hawaiʻi Belt Road (Highway 19) possible in either direction between mile markers 23 and 24, vicinity of Kapehu Road and Pāpaʻaloa Avenue, on Saturday, Dec. 17, and Sunday, Dec. 18, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for mowing and grass cutting.

— KOHALA MOUNTAIN ROAD (HIGHWAY 250) —

1) KOHALA

Single lane closure on Kohala Mountain Road (Highway 250) possible in either direction between mile markers 9 and 13, in the vicinity of Kohala Ranch Road, on Monday, Dec. 19, through Friday, Dec. 23, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for resurfacing.

2) HAWI

Single lane closure on Kohala Mountain Road (Highway 250) possible in either direction between mile markers 14 and 18, vicinity of Puuhue Road and Red Cinder Road, on Saturday, Dec. 17, and Sunday, Dec. 18, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for landscape maintenance and shoulder work.

— DANIEL K. INOUYE HIGHWAY/SADDLE ROAD (HIGHWAY 200) —

NOTE: Daniel K. Inouye Highway/Saddle Road (Highway 200) has returned to normal highway operations. The speed limit is once again posted at 60 mph and it is illegal to park on the shoulder. The temporary observation area off Maunakea Access Road has been shut down.
