UH-Hilo’s Peat claims title of PacWest men’s basketball Defender of the Week

A University of Hawai‘i at Hilo men’s basketball player’s defensive skills on the hardwood during the opening week of conference action landed him the title of Pacific West Conference Defender of the Week for Nov. 28 through Dec. 4.

Nadjrick Peat, a 6-foot, 1-inch forward/center from Alexandria, Jamaica, totaled 16 rebounds with six blocks and a double-double in two gams last week. Peat made his large defensive presence known during road victories against Hawai‘i Pacific University and Chaminade. He also had 31 points on the offensive end.

In the 71-66 win against the Sharks, the former New Mexico Military Institute player had 16 points, 10 rebounds, four blocked shots and one monster dunk on a fast break.

Peat hit 13 of his 16 shots last week and leads the PacWest in field goal percentage with 0.794 marksmanship. He also has a large lead at the top of the blocked shots category with 2.8 per game.
