The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf advisory for west-facing shores of the Big Island until 6 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3.

The current large, long-period west-northwest swell will continue to slowly subside through tonight. Surf of 6 to 8 feet is forecast along west-facing shores of the island.

Strong breaking waves and strong currents will make swimming dangerous. Beachgoers should heed all advice from ocean safety officials — when in doubt, don’t go out.
