Hawai‘i County Police Commission meets again to discuss selection of new police chief
The Hawai‘i County Police Commission will continue its discussion on selecting a new police chief at its upcoming meeting on Friday.
The meeting will take place at 9 a.m. at the West Hawaiʻi Civic Center, Building A Council Chambers, 74-5044 Ane Keohokalole Highway, in Kona.
However, commission members may not be physically present at this location.

Paul Ferreira retired as Hawai’i County’s police chief on Sept. 1. Deputy Chief Kenneth Bugado Jr. is serving as interim chief while the Commission works to fill the position. The pool of 44 applicants for chief has been whittled down to 21.
Up to this point, the commission said the candidates only have been identified by numbers to ensure an unbiased hiring process.
