A special marine warning was issued for Big Island’s leeward, southeast and windward waters until 11:30 a.m.

At 10:32 a.m., a strong thunderstorm was located 11 nm southeast of FAD Buoy A, or 17 nm southeast of Nā‘ālehu, moving northwest at 20 knots.

Wind gusts are anticipated to reach 34 knots or greater, according to the National Weather Service. Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves.

Those on the water are advised to prepare for gusty winds, steep and fast-building seas, and blinding downpours. Stay low or go below, and make sure all on board are wearing life jackets.
