Hawaiʻi County Mayor Mitch Roth invites community members for a walk and to chat during the next Foodie Trek event Friday.

The walk-and-talk with Roth from 10:30-11:30 a.m. will be along the Hilo Bayfront Trails. These monthly events are intended to encourage a healthy lifestyle while giving folks the chance to chat with the mayor about anything and everything Big Island.

Various food truck vendors will also be staged from 4-7 p.m. in the Moʻoheau Bandstand parking lot. The community is encouraged to show its support for the Big Island food truck vendors by stopping by and grabbing a bite to eat.

“Our goal from the beginning has been about access and transparency, and we hope to achieve that by getting out into our communities and talking story,” Roth said in a press release. “Walking, talking and enjoying some ʻono food together is a great way to build a healthy, sustainable Hawaiʻi Island for generations to come.”

Friday’s walk is also a kickoff for the Hawaiʻi Island Chef Challenge. More information will be forthcoming.

The Foodie Trek events are made possible by The Hawaiʻi Public Health Institute, Blue Zones Project, Healthy Eating Active Living, Hilo Bayfront Trails and Hawaiʻi County.
