A dozen motorists were arrested last week for driving under the influence of an intoxicant.
According to Hawai’i police, two of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident and another two were under the age of 21. So far this year, there have been 697 DUI arrests compared with 755 during the same period last year. This is a decrease of 7.7%.
There have been 571 major accidents so far this year compared with 554 during the same period last year. This is an increase of 3.1%.
To date, there were 24 fatal crashes resulting in 26 deaths. In 2021, there were 16 fatal crashes, resulting in 16 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 50% for fatal crashes, and 62.5% for fatalities.
