The Grand Naniloa Hotel in Hilo, in partnership with the county, will honor the birthday of Queen Liliʻuokalani this weekend.

Queen Liliʻuokalani

Big Island residents and visitors are invited to join the hotel from 1-9:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, for a day of celebration in honor of the last sovereign monarch of the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi. The event is being hosted in alignment with the county’s annual celebration of the queen’s birthday at Lili‘uokalani Gardens.

The hotel’s celebration will include entertainment such as Hawaiian music, hula and immersive cultural displays featuring hula implements, lei hulu and Hilo museums. KAPA radio host Tommy “Kahikina” Ching will serve as the event’s emcee and entertainment will be provided by musician Ben Kaili, with hula by dancers from Hālau Ke ʻOlu Makani ʻO Maunaloa, Hālau Hula Heleleʻi Pua O Waipiʻo, Hālau Nā Pua ʻO Uluhaimālama and Ke Olo Pono No Nā Kūpuna.

The hotel’s lobby bar also will be open to the public from noon-midnight for pupus, cocktails, wine and beer, as well as non-alcoholic beverages. Complimentary valet and self-parking are available at Grand Naniloa Golf course across the street from the hotel.
