State-Owned Mulcher Attachment Stolen

Authorities seek the public’s help locating a red Fecon brand mulcher attachment stolen from an excavator owned by the State Department of Transportation Highways Division in Hāmākua.

According to Hawai‘i police, the theft occurred on the shoulder of Highway 19 near the 45-mile marker sometime between 4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25, and Monday, Aug. 29 at 8 a.m. The mulcher’s estimated value is $45,000.

Police ask anyone with information regarding suspicious activity in the area or the location of the mulcher to call the department’s non-emergency line at 808-935-3311 or contact Officer Paul Isotani at paul.isotani@hawaiicounty.gov. ​
