Update: Police reported at 3:43 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, that Pohakea Road in Paʻauilo is now open. The fire that forced a portion of the roadway to be closed earlier Sunday has been contained. Police thank the public for its patience and remind motorists to drive carefully.

Original story: The Hawaiʻi Police Department is alerting motorists to use an another route while a part of a Paʻauilo roadway is closed.

Pohakea Road is closed about 1 mile above Highway 19 because of a fire. Police say to use Kaʻāpahu Road/Apelehama as an alternate route.
