Weekly COVID Update: DOH Reports 338 New Cases on Big Island

The state Department of Health reported 2,696 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, Aug. 17, bringing the statewide total to 335,518. Thirteen new fatalities were reported.

A total of 338 new infections were reported Wednesday on the Big Island. A map documenting new cases by district throughout all islands can be accessed at the DOH website.

The island-by-island case count is as follows:

O‘ahu: 232,683
Hawaiʻi: 37,434
Maui: 38,203
Kaua‘i: 16,865
Moloka‘i: 1,212
Lana‘i: 778
Pending: 0
Out-of-State: 8,343

There are currently 141 individuals hospitalized for the virus. At least 1,619 have died since the pandemic began. Hospitalization data is updated Monday through Friday, except on state and federal holidays.
