The county is notifying the public that a recreation area off Daniel K. Inouye Highway, also known as Saddle Road, will be closed for a good portion of a day this week.

The county Department of Parks and Recreation reports Gilbert Kahele Recreation Area will be closed from 4:30 a.m.-noon Tuesday, Aug. 2, for vector control operations.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead when traveling through the saddle area Tuesday because the public restrooms and amenities at this park will not be available during the vector control work.

“Thank you for your understanding as we work to improve the conditions at this park,” a press release from the county said.
