Hawai‘i police report that Hawaiian Telecom has successfully conducted follow-up repairs to its fiber line and that cell and landline phone service to the westside of the island is now fully restored.

The line was accidentally cut on Tuesday, July 26, knocking out much of telephone and cellphone communications for most of the day. Services were brought back online Tuesday afternoon. Areas affected were Kona, Kealakekua, Waikōloa, Kawaihae and parts of Ka’ū.

Hawaiian Telcom conducted follow-up repairs overnight from 10 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, and 5 a.m., Thursday, July 28, 2022.

Hawai‘i police warn residents may experience issues using 911 or the department’s non-emergency phone line this evening as Hawaiian Telcom crews continue to repair a break in a fiber line in West Hawai‘i.
