Hawai‘i police warn residents may experience issues using 911 or the department’s non-emergency phone line this evening as Hawaiian Telcom crews continue to repair a break in a fiber line in West Hawai‘i.

Hawaiian Telcom will be conducting repair work between 10 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, and 5 a.m., Thursday, July 28, 2022. Hawaiian Telcom landline customers and cellphone services in Kona, Kealakekua, Waikōloa, Kawaihae and parts of Ka’ū may be affected during this time frame due to this work.

The line was accidentally cut on Tuesday, July 26, knocking out much of telephone and cellphone communications for most of the day. Services were brought back online Tuesday afternoon.

If residents are in need of assistance and are unable to call 911 or the non-emergency line during the overnight repair work, they are advised to go to the nearest police station or medical facility.
