Update 5:12 p.m.: Old Saddle Road is now fully open.

Original story:

Three people were transported to Queen’s North Hawai‘i Community Hospital following a single-vehicle crash on Old Saddle Road this afternoon.

According to Hawai‘i Fire Department, a preliminary report indicates the driver in the crash lost control of the vehicle while attempting to pass another vehicle. One person is in critical condition, another in serious and the third is in stable condition.

Hawai‘i Police Department sent out a Nixle alert at approximately 12:45 p.m. indicating the closure between mile markers 43-45. Old Saddle Road was a suggested detour route for motorists as firefighters battled brush fires along Daniel K. Inouye Highway.

Motorists are advised to use Highway 19 or Highway 11 for cross-island travel. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
