Police Investigate Threat at HCC Manono Campus

Big Island police are investigating following a bomb call to the Hawai‘i Community College Manono Campus in Hilo.

Just before 9:30 a.m. Friday, July 15, officers with the Hawai‘i Police Department’s Hilo Patrol responded to a telephone report of a bomb left within a classroom on the campus, according to a media release from police. A systematic search of the college found no unauthorized people, devices or explosives on campus.

Police also conducted a precautionary search at the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo campus on Kāwili Street in Hilo, where they again found no unauthorized people, devices or explosives were found.

A terroristic threatening investigation was initiated as a result of the threat. Detectives from HPD’s Area I Criminal Investigation Section are continuing to investigate.

Anyone with information about the threat is asked to call the police department’s nonemergency line at 808-935-3311. Those who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 808-961-8300.
