Candle Flame Suspected Cause of Pāhoa Structure Fire

No injuries were reported following a structure fire in Pāhoa Wednesday evening.

Hawai‘i Fire Department responded to the blaze on Kalapana Street at 5:24 p.m. When crews arrived on scene, they found a one-story, unpermitted structure, about 300 square feet, fulling involved with fire.

According to HFD officials, fire was under control at 6 p.m. and out by 6:30 p.m. No rescue was needed, and no other nearby structures were threatened.

During their investigation, officials report a candle flame as the suspected cause of the fire.

Hawai‘i Police Department also responded to the scene.
