17 Motorists Arrested for DUI

During the week of June 27, 2022, through July 03, 2022, Hawai‘i police arrested 17 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. Two of the drivers were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 528 DUI arrests compared with 593 during the same period last year, a decrease of 11%.

There have been 389 major accidents so far this year compared with 394 during the same period last year, a decrease of 1.3%.

To date, there were 18 fatal crashes (one fatal crash reclassified on 5/30/22 due to a medical condition) resulting in 20 fatalities (one of which had multiple deaths, and one of which was reclassified due to a medical condition), compared with 12 fatal crashes, resulting in 12 fatalities for the same time last year. (The fatality that occurred on Monday, July 4, will be included in next week’s tally.) This represents is an increase of 50% for fatal crashes and 66.7% for fatalities.
