The University of Hawai‘i men’s basketball team will open its Big West Conference slate Dec. 29 at home against the University of California, Davis.

The Big West Conference announced its 2022-23 schedule Wednesday, June 22. The Rainbow Warriors, with head coach Eran Ganot at the helm, will once again navigate a 20-game regular-season schedule.

However, this year’s regular-season conference schedule has some new wrinkles.

Unlike the previous season, UC San Diego games will count toward conference standings in 2022-23. UH defeated the Tritons twice last year.

Also, because of a shorter-than-normal schedule from December to March, the Big West included two Mondays and two Wednesdays this year. UH will play the majority of its games in the traditional Thursday and Saturday slots, but will also have a pair of Monday games.

Following the season opener against UC Davis, UH will have a New Year’s Eve matchup with Cal Poly on Dec. 31. Other notable home dates include Jan. 14, 2023, versus defending regular-season champion Long Beach State and the team’s Senior Night finale on Feb. 25 against UC Irvine.

The ‘Bows will finish up the regular season on the road with games March 2, 2023, at California State University, Northridge and March 4, 2023, at UC Santa Barbara. UH has ended the regular season on the road in each of the past eight seasons.

The Big West Tournament will be March 7-11, 2023, at the Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, Nev.

UH returns 10 players from last year’s roster, highlighted by top scorer and second-team all-conference guard Noel Coleman. The ‘Bows also welcome back veteran players Samuta Avea and Juan Munoz, who each sat out last year because of injury.

A trio of new players also join the squad, including Washington State transfer Ryan Rapp and highly-touted post player Mor Seck out of national powerhouse Prolific Prep.

UH’s non-conference games will be announced at a later date.
