A Big Island 8-year-old has qualified to continue in competition for a PGA event and is looking for help from the community to get there.

Silas Holly of Mountain View qualified for sub-regionals for the Drive, Chip and Putt competition July 16 on O‘ahu. If he advances from the O‘ahu competition, he gets to compete in the national contest in Arizona.

The keiki golfer is ready for the challenge, but can use some help covering travel costs. So his mom, Kristina Valdez, started a GoFundMe page, hoping the community will support her son on the road to victory. As of Thursday afternoon, June 23, the family had raised $695 toward their $2,000 goal.

“We are a small family of four and are asking for help to cover travel expenses (roundtrip tickets, weekend at the hotel, rental car, etc.),” Valdez writes on the GoFundMe page. “This is a dream come true for Silas and we really want the whole family to be there to cheer him on.”
