Hilo Man Sentenced to 10 Years Prison for Sex Assault Offenses

A Hilo man was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading no contest to sexual assault offenses that occurred between May and August of 2021.

Twenty-four-old Temaura’i Border appeared in Hilo Circuit Court Friday, June 3, for sentencing. He pleaded no contest on Feb. 24 to four counts of second-degree sexual assault, one count third-degree sexual assault, and one count second-degree attempted sexual assault. Second-degree sexual assault and second-degree attempted sexual assault Attempted Sexual Assault are both class B felony offenses which carry a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.

“It is my hope that today’s sentencing sends a powerful message to those who betray family trust and prey upon the vulnerable, that they too will be held accountable for their actions,” said Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen. “Our Office will continue to prioritize the investigation and prosecution of crimes that threaten the safety of our keiki.”
