No Injuries Reported Following Hilo Structure Fire

No injuries were reported following a residential structure fire in Hilo Monday afternoon, May 9.

Hawaiʻi Fire Department responded to the home at 4:39 p.m., located on the 1800 block of Kaiao Street. When crews arrived on scene, they discovered heavy smoke coming from under the eaves of the structure.

Firefighters entered the house and extinguished the blaze. Primary and secondary searches revealed no one was home at the time.

Officials estimate the fire caused $233,400 in damage. Salvage and overhaul was conducted and the scene was released to Hawaiʻi Police Department and HFD inspectors for investigation.
