The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a winter weather advisory effective until 10 a.m. Friday, May 6, for Big Island summits.

Snow is expected on the summits of Maunakea and Maunaloa above 13,000 feet, with additional accumulation of up to 1 inch, according to the NWS.

The advisory says dangerously slick roadways in the areas are possible.

A winter weather advisory means periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
