Put on your cape, shine your green lantern, don your superhero or anime cosplay or just go in your everyday clothes. Whatever you do, don’t miss your chance to pick up a free comic book this weekend at one of two island public libraries.

The Hilo and Kailua-Kona public libraries are participating in Free Comic Book Day this Saturday, May 7. Visit either library and show your valid Hawai’i State Library System library card to snag a free comic book and bookmark or your choice, while supplies last.

You’ll be able to choose from titles such as “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and “The Legend of Korra,” “Avengers/X-Men #1,” “Pokemon Journeys”/”Pokemon Adventures,” “Spider-man Venom #1,” “Stranger Things,” “Resident Alien” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.” Selection might vary at each location.

Those who turn out for the special day also will have the chance to take photos with their favorite intergalactic heroes and villains. Costumed characters from the Pacific Outpost of the 501st Imperial Legion, Rebel Legion Hawai’i and Costumers Guild of Hawai’i will be making appearances at selected libraries.
