HPD Promotes Two to Rank of Major

Two members of the Hawai‘i Police Department were recently promoted to the rank of major.

John Briski

Chief Paul Ferreira recently announced the promotions of John Briski and Reed Mahuna, effective April 15, in a press release.

Briski, a 24-year veteran of the department, is now assigned to the Area I Field Operations Bureau, which encompasses Puna, North and South Hilo and Hāmākua. Briski’s was formerly a patrol officer and community policing officer in Puna, detective in the Criminal Intelligence Unit/Internal Affairs and lieutenant in the Community Policing and Records sections. He previously was a captain in Puna and most recently served as captain of the Criminal Intelligence Unit/Internal Affairs.

Reed Mahuna

Mahuna is a 24-year veteran of HPD and is now assigned to the Technical Services Division, which includes the police department’s Communications Dispatch Center, Communications Maintenance Section, Computer Center, Records and Identification Section and Traffic Services Section.

Mahuna’s former assignments include serving as an officer and field training officer in South Hilo, officer in the Area I Traffic Enforcement Unit, detective in the Area I and Area II Criminal Investigation sections, lieutenant in Puna and lieutenant in Area I Vice Section. He has also served as captain of the Area II Criminal Investigation Division, captain of the Hāmākua and South Hilo districts and most recently served as captain of the Area I Criminal Investigation Division.
