Fire Destroys Structure in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates

Big Island firefighters responded to a structure fire shortly after 9:30 a.m. Sunday, April 17, in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates.

According to a press release from the Hawai‘i Fire Department, firefighters arrived at the scene of the fire at 9:48 a.m. and found the 1,600-square-foot, single-story wooden structure with an iron roof fully engulfed in flames. Nine units were dispatched to battle the blaze.

The building, located on Koa Lane, was destroyed, collapsing because of fire damage. The fire department press release gave a loss estimate of $150,000.

The resident of the structure was not home at the time the fire started.

The blaze was extinguished by 12:15 p.m., with the last fire department unit back in quarters shortly before 12:50 p.m.
