Brush Fire Along Queen Kaʻahumanu Highway Contained

A brush fire along Queen Kaʻahumanu Highway in North Kona this afternoon has been contained.

The fire was initially reported by Hawaiʻi police shortly before 4:30 p.m. According to Hawaiʻi Fire Department, five to seven acres were scorched on the makai side of Queen Kaʻahumanu Highway, near OTEC.

Crews are currently hitting hotspots. Firefighters will remain on scene overnight to watch to address flare-ups.

Southbound traffic on a portion of the highway has been backed up. Avoid the area if possible.
