The Polynesian Voyaging Society stated that voyaging canoes Hōkūleʻa and Hikianalia will depart Sand Island, Oʻahu for Hilo at 8 a.m. Sunday, April 10. The departure has been delayed due dangerous weather conditions, but winds have started to weaken throughout the Hawaiian islands and the canoes should be able to sail by Sunday.
Weather-permitting, Hōkūleʻa and Hikianalia should arrive in Hilo by Tuesday and then will set sail for Tahiti on Wednesday or Thursday.
