No Injuries Reported Following Hilo Structure Fire

No injuries were reported following a structure fire in Hilo Thursday night.

At 8:12 p.m., Hawaiʻi Fire Department responded with three Engine companies to an occupied, two-story residential structure fire on Kawailani street. Upon arrival found the second story 25-30% involved, with flames coming out of the bedroom window and heavy smoke throughout the top floor.

All residents self-evacuated before firefighters arrived.

“HFD personnel made an offensive attack and was able to contain flames to the building and floor of origin,” fire officials stated.

The fire was under control 40 minutes after arrival, with overhaul of the structure following. The scene was turned over to HPD and HFD Fire Investigator.

The cause of this fire is under investigation.
