Mountain View Man Accused of Vehicle Theft in Kona
A Mountain View man is facing charges in connection to a stolen vehicle in Kona as well as a vehicle break-in in Hilo.
According to Hawaiʻi County prosecutors, 25-year-old Mikaele Carvalho was arrested in connection to the theft of a Honda Fit, originally stolen on March 18 from a Kona condominium parking lot and the unauthorized entry of Ford and Mazda pickup trucks on March 21 from a Hilo business.
As the Complaint alleges, Carvalho, a felony repeat offender with two prior convictions for unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, was charged with seven offenses including two counts of second-degree theft, first-degree unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, two counts of first-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and prohibited acts related to drug paraphernalia.
If convicted as charged, Carvalho is subject to a mandatory prison term as a result of his prior felony convictions.
Carvalho is scheduled to appear in Hilo District Court today. He remains in custody in lieu of $60,000 bail.
