Big Island Weekly Lane Closures: March 19-25

Hawai‘i Department of Transportation announced lane closures for the week of March 19-25. Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice. All projects are weather permitting.

There will be no daytime roadwork scheduled on Friday, March 25 in observance of Prince Kūhiō Day, unless permitted. Highway 130 special use lanes will not be operational.

— KUAKINI HIGHWAY (ROUTE 11) —

HŌNAUNAU

Single lane closure on Kuakini Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 104 and 106, Tobacco Road and Middle Keei Road, on Tuesday, March 22 through Friday, March 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for mulching and mowing.

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 20 and 21, Volcano Road and Omeka Road, on Saturday, March 19 through Monday, March 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for mulching, tree trimming and mowing work.

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 21 and 22, Volcano Road and Omeka Road, on Tuesday, March 22 through Friday, March 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for mulching and mowing work.

HŌNAUNAU

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 85 and 86, Old Māmalahoa Highway and Ohana Road, on Tuesday, March 22 through Friday, March 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for grass cutting.

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile markers 86 and 87, Old Māmalahoa Highway and Ohana Road, on Saturday, March 19 through Monday, March 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for grass cutting.

— HAWAI‘I BELT ROAD (ROUTE 19) —

HILO

Right lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road (Route 19) in the northbound direction near mile marker 2.5, Shipman Street and Wailuku Drive, on Monday, March 21 through Friday, March 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for Wailuku Stream Bridge repair work.

HAKALAU (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction near mile marker 13.8, near Kolekole Beach Park, on Saturday, March 19 through Friday, March 25, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., for bridge repair work.

HONOMŪ (24/7 RESTRICTION)

Kolekole Bridge at mile marker 14.27 on Hawai‘i Belt Road (Route 19) is weight restricted to 12 tons (24,000 lbs.) until further notice. The speed limit in the area is reduced to 25 mph. See https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/weight-limit-for-kolekole-bridge-now-12-tons/ for details.

HONOMU

Right lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road (Route 19) in the southbound direction near mile marker 15.4, Old Mamalahoa Highway, on Monday, March 21 through Friday, March 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for Hakalau Stream Bridge rehabilitation and testing.

NINOLE (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile markers 19 and 20, Hanamalo Lane and Hawai‘i Belt Road, on Saturday, March 19 through Monday, March 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for tree trimming and shoulder work.

NINOLE

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile markers 20 and 21, Poupou Stream and Hawai‘i Belt Road, on Tuesday, March 22 through Friday, March 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for tree trimming and shoulder work.

O‘OKALA

Single lane closure on Hawai‘i Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile markers 28 and 29.4, Ka‘awali‘i Stream and Niu Village Road, on Tuesday, March 22 through Friday, March 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for grass cutting.

— BAY FRONT HIGHWAY (ROUTE 19) —

HILO

Single lane closure on Bay Front Highway (Route 19) possible in either direction near mile marker 2.6, Wailuku Drive and Pukihae Street, on Monday, March 21, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., for bridge maintenance work.

— PĀHOA-KALAPANA ROAD (ROUTE 130) —

Single lane closure on Pāhoa-Kalapana Road (Route 130) possible in either direction between mile markers 0.0 and 3, Hawai‘i Belt Road and Kea‘au-Pāhoa Road, on Monday, March 21 through Friday, March 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for installation of new traffic signal indicators.

Single lane closure on Pāhoa-Kalapana Road (Route 130) possible in either direction near mile marker 15.4, Alaili Road, on Monday, March 21 through Friday, March 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for pavement and guardrail improvements.

Single lane closure on Māmalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile markers 3.9 and 6.9, Saddle Road and Cross Island Road, on Monday, March 21 through Friday, March 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for shoulder widening, installation of rumble strips and other safety improvements.

Single lane closure on Akoni Pule Highway (Route 270) in both directions between mile markers 1 and 15, Kawaihae Road and Kapa‘a Park Road, on Saturday, March 19 through Monday, March 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for landscaping and shoulder work.
