18 Motorists Arrested for DUI Last Week

Law enforcement continues their pursuit to make roadways safe from drivers under the influence of an intoxicant.

According to Hawaiʻi Police Department, during the week of Feb. 21-27, police arrested 18 motorists for DUI. Five of the drivers were involved in traffic accidents. One of the drivers was younger than 21 years old.

So far this year, there have been 184 DUI arrests compared with 200 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8%.

There have been 113 major accidents so far this year compared with 120 during the same period last year, a decrease of 5.8%.

To date, there were 6 fatal crashes, resulting in eight fatalities (one of which had multiple deaths), compared with five fatal crashes, resulting in five fatalities for the same time last year. This represents is an increase of 20% for fatal crashes and 60% for fatalities.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
