Hawai‘i County is making the process of obtaining a building permit placard more convenient.

The county Department of Public Works Building Division is pleased to announce that issued permit placards are now available to print from the convenience of an applicant’s home or place of business.

According to a press release from the county, applicants are no longer required to pick up their permit placard from the Building Division offices in Kona and Hilo. Applicants now can access their placard upon issuance by logging into their EPIC account and viewing the “Attachments” tab of their permit.

Applicants remain able to have their permit placard printed at the Building Division offices and are encouraged to schedule a time to pick up their placard via the EPIC Request Assistance form available online.

Per Hawai’i County code, work requiring a permit shall not be commenced until the permit holder or their agent post the permit at the job site. The permit must be readily visible for the authority having jurisdiction to identify and make all required inspections. The permit also must remain posted until the work is finished and a final inspection is completed by the authority with jurisdiction.

Failure to comply could result in a $100 fine.
