Brush Fire That Closed Highway 11 Burned 1.5 Acres of Small Trees

No injuries were reported in the brush fire in South Kona that closed Highway 11 for roughly an hour.
The Hawai‘i Fire Department stated on Saturday, Feb. 26 that approximately 1.5 acres of brush and small trees burned in the fire Friday afternoon. An abandoned car, PVC pipes, and other debris and agricultural equipment was found inside the area that burned, the department stated.
Highway 11 near mile marker 98 in Pahoehoe was closed at 4 p.m. Friday while crews extinguished the blaze.
