Residents along Ponahawai Street, between Komohana Street and Kapi‘olani Street, including all side roads and lanes, in Hilo are being notified that their water service could be affected by an upcoming test.

The county Department of Water Supply announced in a news release that it will be conducting a fire hydrant flow test between the hours of 9 and 10 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, along Ponahawai Street.

The affected area might experience slightly discolored and turbid water for several hours after the test. Customers are advised to refrain from washing clothes and to store a container of water for their drinking needs until the supply of water is restored to normal.

Any customers who experience unusual problems during or after the flushing period can call district supervisor Carl Nishimura at 808-961-8790.
