Reminder: Water Shutoffs Planned This Week in Pāpaʻikou Area

The county is reminding residents in the Pāpaʻikou area that temporary water shutoffs are planned in several locations this week.

Water will be temporarily turned off from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8. The services and areas affected will be:

• All services along Hawai‘i Belt Road (Highway 19) and all connecting roads from Mill Road in Pāpa‘ikou to Pauka‘a Drive in Pauka‘a, including Kapue Street, Hikina Place and Lali Place.
• All services in Pāpa‘ikou along Mill Road, from Old Māmalahoa Highway to Hawai‘i Belt Road.
• All services in Silverton Camp.
• All services in Pueopaku, including services along Old Māmalahoa Highway, Ka‘aukai Place, Pākū Place and Enoka Place.
• All services in Pauka‘a along Kāhoa Street, Kulana Street, Kulana Road, Lālāwai Place, Nanea Street, Kāhoa Place, Ku‘ikahi Street, Poko Place, Pauka‘a Drive, Honoli‘i Place and all other side roads.

The affected areas might experience low to no water pressure during the shut-off period.

The shutoffs are necessary to do a waterline connection for the county Department of Water Supply’s Pāpaʻikou Transite and G.I. Pipeline Replacement Project.

Upon the resumption of water service, water lines will be flushed and cleaned, during which time residents in the affected areas could notice turbid and/or discolored water. They might also notice trapped air in their plumbing, which will be released as water is initially used.

Affected customers are reminded to take any and all precautions necessary to protect their property and facilities including, but not limited to, disabling electrical power to pumps and/or any other devices that depend on water pressure and/or water supply for normal operation and that might be harmed if automatically energized during the shutoff.

The Department of Water Supply asks residents to pardon this temporary inconvenience.
