The County of Hawai‘i has scheduled collection days for household hazardous waste in Hilo and Kona next month.

The first event will take place on Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Waiākea High School Parking Lot. The second is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 12 at the West Hawai‘i Civic Center Parking Lot. Collection will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on both days.

Officials ask those coming to drop off materials to stay in their vehicles and follow all physical distancing rules. Masks are recommended and there are no container returns.

Prior to arriving at the event, those dropping off HHW items are advised to place them in the trunk or truck bed. If that is not feasible, officials advise placing materials in an unoccupied backseat area.

To minimize interactions, label HHW items (if possible) and make sure they are easily distinguishable and separate from anything else in the trunk or truck bed.

No business or farm waste is allowed. Do not bring latex paint or electronics. Click here for a full list of what items can be brought to the collection sites or call the Department of Environmental Management at 808-961-8554.
