Weekly DUI Stats: 19 Motorists Arrested for DUI on Big Island Roads

Nineteen motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of an intoxicant during the week of Jan. 17-23.

Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 69 DUI arrests compared with 83 during the same period last year, a decrease of 16.9%.

There have been 44 major accidents so far this year compared with 41 during the same period last year, an increase of 7.3%.

To date, there have been two fatal crashes, resulting in two fatalities, compared with two fatal crashes, resulting in two fatalities for the same time last year.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
