A 22-year-old Hilo man was charged for assaulting a police officer in relation to a Jan. 21 incident at an Orchidland gas
station.

Kade Kapika-Overturf, 22, is facing seven charges including first-degree assault against an officer, first-degree criminal property damage, two counts of second-degree criminal property damage, first-degree resisting a stop, and second degree promotion of a dangerous drug and prohibited acts related to drug paraphernalia.

Kapika-Overturf is scheduled to make his initial appearance this week in Hilo District Court.
He remains in custody in lieu of $82,000 bail.

At the time of his arrest, Kapika-Overturf was also wanted for an outstanding warrant for another unrelated felony matter. Review of court records indicate that at the time of alleged offenses, Kapika-Overturf was pending three other unrelated felony matters, where he was previously granted against objections by the prosecutor’s office, Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen stated in a press release Monday, Jan. 24.
