Bail Reduction Granted for Puna Woman Facing Possession, Attempted Distribution Charges

Sheena Kaepekaʻa Andrews

A Puna woman is facing charges of possession and attempted distribution of methamphetamine and marijuana in relation to a Jan. 19 incident.

Thirty-six-year-old Sheena Kaepekaʻa Andrews, also known as Cheena Andrews appeared in Hilo District Court today for her initial appearance. The Court granted Andrews’ request for a bail reduction, reducing her bail from $107,000 to $52,000 over prosecutors’ objections.

Andrews is a repeat offender with two prior felony convictions. She is now facing seven offenses including first-degree attempted promotion of a dangerous drug, second-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, two counts of third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, second-degree promotion of a detrimental drug, first-degree promotion of a detrimental drug and prohibited acts related to drug paraphernalia.

If convicted as charged, Andrews faces sentencing to a mandatory minimum prison term without the possibility of parole. At the time of her arrest, Andrews was also wanted for outstanding warrants related to two other unrelated felony matters.

Andrews was ordered to appear on Jan. 25 for a preliminary hearing.
