A Puna man is facing theft charges in connection to a reported stolen vehicle from a residence in Kurtistown as well as fleeing from police a few days ago.

Thirty-eight-year-old Sergey Tkachuk is scheduled to appear in Hilo District Court today on first-degree theft, first-degree unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, unauthorized possession of confidential or personal information and first-degree resisting order to stop. Charges stem from an incident on Jan. 13 where he allegedly stole a Ford truck.

Court records indicate Tkachuk was also pending felony charges for another unrelated Kona matter at the time of the alleged offenses.

Tkachuk remains in custody in lieu of $65,000 bail pending his initial appearance today in Hilo District Court
