Unpermitted Structure, 2 Cars Destroyed in Puna Fire

No injuries were reported after an unpermitted structure and two vehicles in Puna were destroyed in a fire Friday, Jan. 14.

Hawaiʻi Fire Department received the call about the blaze, located on Omeka Road in the Fern Forest Subdivision, at 3:05 p.m. When crews arrived on scene, they found the 600-square-foot structure engulfed in flames. The fire consumed two vehicles parked next to the building.

Fire officials reported the structure collapsed, resulting in 100% damage to the building as well as the two older model vehicles.

The owner or occupant of the residence was not at home at the time.
