A high surf advisory is in effect for north-facing shores of the Big Island until 6 p.m. Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, surf will peak between 15 to 20 feet along north-facing shores.

Impacts are expected to be moderate. Beachgoers should expect strong breaking waves, shore break,
and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.

Beachgoers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution.
